Moviegoers might expect to see an Oscar-nominated film when they go to the theaters this time of year.

They might not expect to get a glimpse at an Oscar statue.

Folks going to the Krikorian Theatres 15 at Dos Lagos in Corona will have a chance to see a collection of 13 Academy Awards and other memorabilia on display in the theater's lobby today through Tuesday.

The Krikorian Theatres 15 at Dos Lagos in Corona will have on display 13 Oscars and other memorabilia.

"Is not every day that they (moviegoers) can walk into a theater and see an Oscar collection," said Nikki Kealalio, marketing coordinator for Krikorian Premiere Theatres.

Kealalio said the collection is owned by George Krikorian, owner of the theater chain.

The exhibit is part of the Krikorian Theatre's annual Oscar tour and contest. During the tour, the collection will be displayed in six Krikorian locations in Southern California, she said. It was exhibited recently at the Krikorian Redlands Cinema 14 in Redlands.

This is the tour's fourth year, and it's the second time it has stopped at the Corona theater.

Kealalio said the collection is the second largest owned by a private collector, only surpassed by Walt Disney's collection.

Each statue has a description of the film it was awarded to and other trivia, she said.

Krikorian's collection includes the Best Film Editing award for the movie "Jaws" (1975) and the Best Motion Picture awards for "Cavalcade" (1933), "How Green Was My Valley" (1941) and "Gigi" (1958).

"It's interesting to see how the Oscars have change through the years," Kealalio said in a telephone interview.

She said it's fascinating how the base and the height of the statue as well as the materials it's made of have changed with time.

"One year they used a different material to make the statues because the country was at war and they were low on metals," she said.

Also on display will be a Golden Globe Award, a Photoplay Award, a Director's Guild of America Lifetime Achievement Award and a 21-jewel Academy Award watch by Bulova, which were the award's first sponsor.

The exhibit will include vintage movie posters and a list of award winners.

Moviegoers can also participate in an Oscar contest by choosing winners in 11 categories.

The theater is located at 2710 Lakeshore Drive, Corona. The winners will be announced in late March.
