Restaurant helps raise funds for hospital

A local fundraiser helped a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based restaurant chain surpass its goal to aid a children's hospital.

RA Sushi Bar Restaurant last month hosted its annual "Nicky's Week" fundraiser to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

With all the proceeds from the sale of sushi dishes, appetizers and selected beverages going to the hospital, the 13 franchises, including one in Corona, raised $102,000. The Corona franchise, at the Promenade Shops at Dos Lagos, raised $9,075.

The annual benefit was developed in memory of Nicholas "Nicky" Malliard, a longtime patient at St. Jude who died in 2005 of brain cancer. He was the nephew of one of the restaurant's founders, Rich Howland.
