Riverside County students win scholarships with Earth-themed speeches

CORONA - Students from western Riverside County won scholarships for their speeches on global warming, endangered animals and the environment at an Earth-themed oratorical tournament.

Approximately 60 students competed in the Earth Day tournament, conducted by the Friends of RCC Forensics April 22 at the Promenade at Dos Lagos.

Scholarships were presented to these winners and finalists: first-place award of $500 to Sara Johnson of Vista del Lago High School in Moreno Valley, second-place award of $400 to Patrick Maravilla of River Heights Intermediate School in Eastvale, third-place award of $300 to Elizabeth Miller of Centennial High School in Corona, fourth-place award of $200 to Jesse Haack of Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, and $100 awards to finalists Anna Dewey of Corona High School, Kiana Arakawa of Vista del Lago High School, Akshay Patil of Centennial High School and Christyana Cabal of River Heights Intermediate School.
