I am responding to the article, "Retail's evolution" (Oct. 1). Let's face it. Driving on Inland Empire freeways is no fun anymore. What is evolving are retail and community islands that blend living, working and retail all within a walkable and drivable distance.
Other cities that have embraced the concept that density does not equate to slums include Corona with Dos Lagos, Rancho Cucamonga with Victoria Gardens and Highland with the proposed Greenspot Village. These types of developments are the future -- where our children can afford their first property in a vibrant area and, someday, where my generation will forgo lawn/pool/home maintenance to move into a town home or condo with an instant community.
